Whiting-Turner Contracting is building a 3-story, 75,000 SF research building for United Therapeutics on the campus of Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. The 1st and 2nd floors are for United Therapeutics' lung perfusion process, where donor lungs that would have normally been thrown away are refurbished for transplant. The 3rd floor will house Mayo Clinic's Life Sciences Incubator, where biotech companies from around the world can collaborate with Mayo on the generation and development of new ideas that are translated into viable commercial products and services.
The building will be constructed with a net-zero initiative (zero net energy consumption). There are many components that are installed to achieve this goal. A few of these include: park under solar canopies to provide power for the building, open loop geothermal wells to help cool the building, electrochromic glass that will automatically shade with the sun, high efficiency LED lights are installed throughout the building and power monitoring systems will constantly monitor power usage.
SPACE IS LIMITED TO 15 ATTENDEES.
